Compactor for plastics

Alterval offers a number of solutions to optimise the management of plastic waste, the Valpak ® bag, the Valpak ® Container, the Vertical Baler, and the Screw Compactor.
For small waste, Alterval offers solutions such as the Manual Press. For the management of plastic bottles, Alterval markets the b:bot which collects, sorts and crushes the bottles to obtain PET flakes (coloured and uncoloured).
All these machines are available for purchase or rental.

Plastic is a waste product that businesses should consider valorizing. Although there is a trend towards reducing the use of this type of material, it remains one of the primary materials for packaging products. In France alone, over 4.5 million tons of plastic waste are thrown away each year. At AlterVal, we offer solutions to compact this material, making plastic recycling easier.

What is a plastic compactor?

Plastic compactors – whether rotary, screw or hydraulic – serve to minimise waste volume. AlterVal offers a broad range of compactors specifically adapted for this material. Among them, we may highlight the Valpak and the baler.

The Valpak is a plastic waste compactor equipped with a rotating head featuring spikes, which favour an efficient compacting operation. This industrial plastic compactor produces plastic-waste bales weighing between 300 and 400 kg.

On the other hand, vertical or horizontal balers compact plastic waste by means of an hydraulic cylinder. This jack can exert a pressure of several tons. In this way, plastic waste is compacted as much as possible so that it takes up as little space as possible. Compacted bales can weigh up to several hundred kilograms. Waste handling is thus facilitated by means of compact bales of regular shapes (usually the size of a European pallet).

Whatever the solution chosen, compacting waste is a strategic issue for all businesses no matter the size. Using a plastic press is a great way to recover your waste.

What type of plastic are these compactors suitable for?

The compactor’s ability to reduce plastic volume depends on the compatibility of plastic waste. The range of presses offered by AlterVal allows the treatment of almost all forms of plastic waste: PET (Polyethylene Terephthalate), stretchable plastic films, shrinkable plastic films

Are these acronyms meaningless to you? Just bear in mind that these different kinds of plastics make up the vast majority of waste. For example, bottles are made of PET, HDPE is used for detergent bottles and LDPE for stretch films.

Does your waste primarily consist of plastic bottles? If so, our PET compactors seem the ideal option for you. PET is a fairly complex material to compact, as it tends to quickly go back to its original shape and move around in bales. With this in mind, we have devised a PET compactor that can deal with such issues.

Why should you use a plastic baler?

Waste management is a key business requirement. If you’re not fully convinced yet, do consider these points:

Cost and time savings

The key function of a plastic compactor is to increase waste density as much as possible while reducing its volume. Accordingly, crushed and compacted plastic waste need not to be collected as often as before. This fact alone should drive significant cost savings and help you free up storage space.

This benefit is directly linked to the previous one

Waste compacting offers many advantages including lower storage space requirements and the standard dimensions of processed waste i.e., bales. In general, compactors produce uniform, standard-size bales that can be transported on an 80 × 120-cm pallet. Once set on pallets, you can easily transport them or stack them up to free up valuable floor space.

What is more, you will reduce your carbon footprint

No more pieces of plastic film protruding from garbage cans or lying around on the ground, at the risk of ending up in nature shortly afterwards. Baling presses make it possible to secure the storage of this particularly volatile material. Further to saving on waste collection costs, you’ll also benefit from reducing the carbon footprint linked to waste collection.

Compliance

Since the French “5-flux” law of 2016, companies must treat five types of waste, including plastic and cardboard waste. Whether using a vertical or horizontal press, a manual or automatic baler, with or without grinding function, companies using plastic compactors are simply exemplary in terms of waste treatment and recovery.

Carton management in an essential part of doing business. Cartons are – almost by default  – used to package and/or protect semi-finished or finished products. With an average of over eight million tonnes of paper or cardboard waste produced each year in France, it is easy to understand why this material must be treated. Fortunately, there are solutions that can facilitate and optimise carton management for businesses: cardboard compactors.
